Good Friday ended up being Great Friday as I spent the day with some of my very lovely friends eating copious amounts of pizza and drinking bottomless prosecco.

Celebrating two of our friends’ birthdays, we went to Buca di Pizza – a new pizzeria and bar on Wellington Street, less than five minutes’ walk from the train station.

Buca di Pizza

It doesn’t look much from the outside but once you go down the stairs, Buca di Pizza is surprisingly spacious and very trendy. We sat in the restaurant area but there’s also a bar, complete with a foosball table (and also Star Wars Monopoly – what every good bar needs.)

Buca di Pizza is currently running an offer where for £20 you can get unlimited pizza and house prosecco, beer or soft drinks in the space of 90 minutes.

I was a bit dubious about what the quality of the food would be like on an offer like this, but it was delicious. The pizzas have a nice, crispy thin base, so you don’t get too full too soon and we were given a really good selection of toppings. (Rather than choosing our own pizzas, we were just brought a variety.) The Hickory Pig (BBQ sauce, mozzarella, pesto and cherry tomatoes) and Spring Chicken (roast chicken with black olives and pesto) were my favourites.

Pizza

As soon as all the plates were clear, more pizza arrived. In our hour and a half, we reckon our group of 10 managed to get through 14 pizzas, 24 glasses of prosecco and 14 pints of beer. Not bad going!
